JAMELIA

Singer/songwriter Jamelia began her career at fifteen when an executive at Parlophone Records (a division of EMI) heard her singing a capella music she'd self-written. Her success began in 2000 with the release of her third single, "Money" which rocketed to the top five in the UK and later earned her four nominations at the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) awards. She won the MOBO Best Video 2000 award. Born on January 11, 1981, in Smethwick, West Midlands, England, Jamelia Niela Davis, known professionally as Jamelia, went on to release three studio albums: Drama, Thank You and Walk With Me. In 2003, Jamelia's single, "Superstar", peaked at No. 3 in the UK and became No. 1 in Australia and New Zealand. Solidly rooted in soul and R&B, Jamelia has won four MOBO awards, six British Phonographic Industry (BRIT) annual pop music awards, the Q Award, two Urban Music Awards for best R&B act, and Poland's Eska Award for Best Foreign Singer. Jamelia's second album, Thank You, went double platinum and she has continued to rock the music charts with platinum and gold singles internationally. Jamelia has colloborated with American rap star Rah Digga, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Italian singer Tiziano Ferro. Her hit song, "Superstar," appeared on the soundtrack of the highly acclaimed A&E hit drama, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and she has contributed to the soundtracks of The Simple Life 2, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, where her remake of Sam Brown's "Stop" became the lead single in the movie's soundtrack. Jamelia also models professionally and has appeared on the covers of numerous magazines including Elle, Cosmopolitan, Harpers and Glamour. She has landed endorsement deals with the giant athletic brand, Reebok and has been the cover model for Jaguar and Listerine. On June 14, 2008, Jamelia married football player Darren Byfield at Eastland Estate in West Sussex. The couple's rocky relationship included a split in 2007 when Byfield was accused of cheating. They reconciled after several months. Jamelia has two daughters: Teja 7 and Tiani 3 who is the daughter of husband Darren Byfield.

JAMELIA: No More (Single)

No More

Within the past few years, British R & B artists have been making their mark. Jamelia is another, joining the ranks of Leona Lewis, Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse. Her style is entirely her own, however, combining the poppiness of Kylie Minogue with the rhythm and blues sounds of Beyonce and Mary J. Blige. Jamelia's "No More" is a recent offering from her 2006 release, Walk With Me. The song is set around a sample of the song "Golden Brown", a 1982 hit by the Stranglers. The theme of "No More", however, is more than an ode to narcotics. Jamelia sings of strength and dignity, and the power to walk away from a crippling relationship. "No more secrets you tried to hide," she soulfully sings, "No more covering your crimes / No more you, I've made up my mind". The embodiment of girl power through music, it's also a fun song to harmonize and sing along to. There's power, conviction and (perhaps even more importantly) a good dose of soul that's sure to leave you wanting to hear even more of Jamelia's music.
