JAMIROQUAI

Jamiroquai is a combination of talented musicians whose name derives from a combination of the musical slang 'Jam Session' and Iroquai after the Iroquois Native American Indian tribe. Incidentally this band named after an American Indian tribe originated in England and their musical styling combines an eclectic mix of Pop, Jazz, Acid Rock, Disco, Soul and Electronica. This seemingly eccentric combination of styles has served them well and even though the band has undergone several lineup changes their multi-decade career has continued with much critical success. The longest member of Jamiroquai is Jason Kay. Front man, Kay, is so much in the media eye as the main ingredient of the band whose only other founding member is drummer Derrick McKenzie that Kay is often thought of as a solo act and the band as a backup to his music which isn't really the case at all. Jamiroquai's first album "Emergency on Planet Earth" reached number 1 on the UK charts and began the band's long and tumultuous career. Even though the album avoided the US charts it made the top 25 in many other countries around the world and the band's second album "The Return of the Space Cowboy" climbed to number 2 on the UK charts and top 50 in several other countries as well. Still escaping US attention until the release of their third album "Traveling Without Moving" that maintained its number 2 position in the UK and top 10 in many other countries while also finally obtaining a charting in the top 25 on the US Pop charts in 1996. Two subsequent albums "Synkronized" in 1999, and "A Funk Odyssey" in 2001 hit the number one position once again in the UK and charted in the top 50's on the US Pop charts as well as attaining the number one spot on the US Electronic charts and many other countries as well. "Dynamite" debuted in 2005 and moved up to number 3 in the UK and charting across the globe and their compilation album "High Times: Singles 1992-2006" released in 2006 was number 1 in the UK as well. Current members of Jamiroquai include Jason Kay as front man vocalist, Derrick McKenzie on drums, Sola Akingbola on Percussion, Rob Harris on guitar, Matt Johnson on Keyboards, and Paul Turner on the bass, with Lorraine McIntosh, Hazel Fernandez, and Sam Smith as backing vocalists.
